007 First Light's opening mission is free to try on Xbox Series X|S and Steam, with the PS5 Starter Pack arriving November 10. If you're on PlayStation, you can wait for the free pack before deciding whether to buy the full game. Put its arrival in your calendar before weighing the sale price.

This Daily Console Drop is about choosing what to try first. Bond's chapter-sized sample, Crime Boss: Rockay City's expiring Xbox weekend and IXION's two-hour trial all offer a way to investigate a game before buying. They ask for different amounts of your time, and only some need your attention before Sunday.

Bond's free chapter has its own schedule

IO Interactive's announcement says the Starter Pack contains the opening mission in Iceland, with progress carrying into the full game if you buy it. ComingSoon's report corroborates the mission, Xbox and Steam availability, and November 10 PS5 arrival.

The PlayStation Plus Premium option is different: subscribers can already access a one-hour timed trial. Don't confuse that subscription benefit with the forthcoming free Starter Pack. If your aim is simply to find out whether you like the opening, waiting for November 10 is a reasonable alternative to paying for access sooner.

There is also a sale calendar, confirmed by KitGuru's coverage. IOI lists 40% off on Steam through November 9 and Xbox Series X|S through November 15, while PS5 gets 50% off through November 30. Those are announced promotion dates, not an assertion that the free mission disappears when a discount ends. Check your regional listing for the final price and exact cutoff before relying on either.

Put the expiring trials first

Xbox Wire's weekend announcement lists Crime Boss: Rockay City as free to try without Game Pass through November 8. IXION has a two-hour trial over the same weekend. TrueAchievements' lineup report confirms those limits and identifies IXION as a Game Pass offer.

A two-hour allowance isn't a whole weekend of unrestricted play. For IXION, reserve a session when you can pay attention rather than opening it merely to browse. For Crime Boss, the calendar is the constraint: try it before the promotion finishes if it interests you. Neither offer is a free copy to keep.

We covered Anno 117's platform-specific free-weekend deadlines separately. There's no need to install every available trial. Choose the expiring game you're actually curious about, then leave Bond's PS5 reminder for November 10. A discount is useful only after you've decided you want the game.
