Ace Combat 8 Launch Day: Editions, Unlock Times, and What Pre-Order Still Buys You

Official Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve key art of a fighter jet banking through clouds

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is not waiting until Friday for everyone. Bandai Namco and PlayStation Blog both publish the same calendar skeleton — Deluxe early access already opened, and the worldwide Standard launch is dated October 2, 2026 — but the Americas go-live on PlayStation Blog is today at 3:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. ET), with Europe and Japan rolling over at midnight CEST / 7:00 a.m. JST on the 2nd. If you are reading this from Vancouver or Los Angeles on Thursday morning, the base game is still a few hours away.

What follows is a launch-day owner map built from Bandai Namco’s editions FAQ, the Europe “All You Need To Know” post, and the June State of Play PlayStation Blog timing note. It is not a review and it is not a reprint of the store blurb. The goal is simpler: which SKU still matters once early access is already underway, which pre-order bonuses cut off before the Standard unlock, and how the new Ace Pass stack actually differs from buying Deluxe after day one.

Regional unlock clock

Publishers love a single “October 2” headline. The store clocks are messier. PlayStation Blog’s June post is the clearest Americas timing we have: October 1 at 3:00 p.m. PT for the Standard release window, with Europe and Japan listed as October 2 local midnights. Bandai Namco Europe lists early access for Deluxe and the Joker Flight packs from September 29 at 00:00 CEST, which aligns with the three-day head start that digital Deluxe pre-orders were sold on.

If you already bought digital Deluxe before early access opened, you should be in. Bandai Namco Europe also notes that buying digital Deluxe between September 29 and October 2 still grants an already-unlocked early-access build for that window. Physical Deluxe discs and codes follow the insert-or-redeem path described in the same FAQ; after the Standard launch, Deluxe remains on sale but without the early-access perk.

Standard vs Deluxe vs collector packs

Platforms are consistent across the lineup: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Physical discs are called out for PS5 and Xbox Series where retailers participate; the Bandai Namco Store collector packs are Steam-code bundles with vinyl and art-book extras, not console steelbooks.

The Deluxe cosmetic set, per Bandai Namco, includes the Tasha costume set for the online lobby, F-4E Mobius Squadron and F/A-18C Team Zvezda skins (online immediately; campaign after finishing all missions), and scarlet missile smoke for online aircraft. That is flavor, not a campaign difficulty toggle.

Pre-order bonuses that still matter today

Every edition pre-ordered before October 2 is listed with the same software bonus: a playable F-14A Tomcat and a port of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War (the 2006 game running on current platforms — Bandai Namco Europe explicitly says it is not a remaster). Once the Standard unlock passes, treat those bonuses as closed unless a retailer still honors a late pre-order SKU.

That creates a practical fork for anyone still on the fence this morning:

Ace Pass, without the brochure fog

Bandai Namco splits progression into three layers. The free Ace Pass tracks ACE COMBAT ONLINE XP on a roughly two-month season cadence. Premium Ace Pass adds the paid reward track (Season 1’s headline aircraft is the ADFX-02 Morgan–PIXY at level 1 of that track). Premium Ace Pass Plus is Premium plus an instant 30-level skip. Deluxe’s voucher redeems one season of Plus; it is not locked to Season 1, so you can save it if a later season’s aircraft looks better.

Online itself is a separate save and progression lane from Campaign. Lobbies are described as up to 100 players, with cross-play matchmaking, Co-Op Assault and Co-Op Warfare as the core playlists, plus limited-time Scramble / Emergency Sortie events. None of that requires Deluxe, but the cosmetics and pass skip are why Deluxe exists.

For PC players staring at install size, Bandai Namco’s recommended Windows 11 spec calls for an SSD, a DirectX 12 Shader Model 6.6 GPU with hardware ray tracing, 32 GB RAM, and about 125 GB free — worth budgeting before the afternoon unlock if you are downloading on a cold drive.

Owner verdict for October 1

If you are on Pacific time and still deciding before 3:00 p.m. PT, Standard plus the Zero / F-14A pre-order pair is the clean “just fly the campaign” buy. Deluxe is for people who know they will touch ACE COMBAT ONLINE and want the Plus voucher plus cosmetics without hunting them later. Collector packs are a Steam-and-shelf decision, not a console performance one. And if you only care about reviews, wait — this guide is about SKUs and clocks, not mission quality.
