Aspyr Brings Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor & Shadow of War to Switch 2 on Sept. 30

Aspyr used Hobbit Day to lock a surprise Switch 2 date for two of the best modern Lord of the Rings games. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition launch digitally on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30, 2026—the first time either title has appeared on Nintendo hardware.

Coverage from RPG Site (via the North American eShop) and Aspyr’s press text mirrored on GoNintendo agree on the packaging: complete editions with previously released DLC, sold separately or as the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle.

Pricing and the 50% pre-order cut

Digital pre-orders are live with a temporary 50% discount through launch:

  • Shadow of Mordor GOTY — $9.99 (normally $19.99)
  • Shadow of War Definitive — $24.99 (normally $49.99)
  • Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle — $34.99 (normally $69.99)

That bundle price is the headline for most Switch 2 owners who never played the Nemesis System saga on PlayStation or Xbox. Aspyr frames the duo as the award-winning open-world action titles originally developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

What is in each edition

Shadow of Mordor GOTY includes the base game plus prior content such as the Lord of the Hunt and The Bright Lord campaign expansions, exclusive warband missions, runes, and skins. The Nemesis System—procedural captains who remember your fights—remains the series’ defining hook.

Shadow of War Definitive packs the sequel’s fortress conquest fantasy with story expansions including Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel, plus the Slaughter and Outlaw Tribe Nemesis expansions and the Sword of Dominion bonus weapon. Aspyr notes the Garrison works offline for redeploying Orc followers; online conquests, vendettas, fight pits, chests, and training orders are unavailable in this offline-optimized build.

eShop fine print

RPG Site’s listing read calls out a 73GB download for Shadow of War and listed touchscreen support. Mordor currently shows a tiny placeholder size expected to update before launch. Storage planners should treat War as the heavy install.

These ports continue Aspyr’s recent LOTR push after The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition last month, with the studio teasing more classic franchise releases ahead. For Switch 2 owners who skipped the last console generation’s Warner Bros. catalog, Sept. 30 is the portable Mordor date—and the pre-order cut is the reason to act before the discount expires at launch.
