Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s free November 5 update adds New Game+, but the useful detail for returning players is its unlock condition: finish “Holy Day,” the last quest in Hamtunscire. If your old save stopped short of that point, installing the patch alone won’t open the replay mode.
That makes checking your quest progress a better first step than starting a fresh game. The update gives you two reasons to return: another campaign run with tougher successive playthroughs, or more room to develop your equipment in the existing endgame. You don’t need to commit to another full adventure just to investigate the changes.
Check your old save before restarting
Ubisoft’s title update 1.8.0 notes identify Holy Day as the New Game+ requirement. For a player coming back after a long break, that named milestone is more helpful than a vague instruction to finish the story. Load the save you want to return to, check where you left Eivor, and decide whether reaching that quest is your next goal.
The replay also changes what familiar rewards are worth. Duplicate equipment and already-known Books of Knowledge award Mithril in New Game+. The new material supports further equipment upgrades, and it’s also available through the Niflheim, Mastery and River Raid shops. There’s consequently a route to it for players who prefer continuing their endgame activities rather than repeating the campaign.
The distinction matters. If you’re returning for the story, New Game+ supplies the structure. If your interest is in experimenting with your character, look at the equipment changes before assuming another playthrough is necessary.
More upgrades without another expansion purchase
Ubisoft’s launch announcement confirms that Divine-quality equipment upgrades are now available without owning Dawn of Ragnarök. Divine gear can be improved as far as level 27 using Mithril. That removes an expansion-ownership requirement from this part of character progression.
An optional Extended Progression mode also factors equipment, runes and masteries into your power, while a new stash in Ravensthorpe lets you put away equipment and runes. Together, those changes make it worth reviewing your inventory before diving into another run. Treat that as preparation, rather than an instruction to turn on every new option immediately.
Start with your existing save and the Holy Day check. Then choose the return that actually interests you: replaying the campaign or working on your endgame character. The update gives both groups something to consider, without making a new expansion purchase the starting point.
