You don't need Game Pass to try The Alters on Xbox this weekend. Its free trial gives you three hours, with the promotion running through October 18. That makes it an easy candidate for a planned evening, provided you don't mistake the weekend window for unlimited playtime.
This Friday's download decisions come with three different clocks: a limited number of hours, a delayed start within a weekend event, and a demo that arrives next week. Checking which clock applies is more useful than filling your download queue with everything marked free.
Xbox's trial hours and weekend dates
Xbox Wire's lineup separates The Alters from the subscription offers. Windows Report's account corroborates both its three-hour limit and the absence of a Game Pass requirement.
NBA 2K27 Standard Edition joins at noon PT on Friday, October 16, and runs through October 18. It needs Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate. Those same tiers unlock this weekend's Crusader Kings III, Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop, Soccer Story and Ravenswatch offers, which began October 15.
If you're arranging a shared basketball session, noon is the detail to pass along. If you're choosing The Alters, leave yourself a proper block of time before starting. A three-hour allowance is enough to make an informed personal decision without turning the weekend into a checklist.
Don't read “through Sunday” as a verified midnight deadline. The announcements reviewed here give October 18 as the end date without an exact closing time. Check the console listing before leaving your session until late Sunday.
A Switch 2 demo to put on next week's calendar
Monster Hunter Wilds' Prologue Demo is scheduled for October 19 PT on Switch 2. RPG Site reproduces Capcom's announcement, including that Pacific date; Gematsu also confirms the October 19 launch.
The opening story is playable, and save data carries into the full game. Local multiplayer is supported; online multiplayer isn't. That distinction matters more than simply seeing “multiplayer” on an announcement: don't arrange a remote hunting night around this demo.
For a prospective Switch 2 buyer, the useful move is to try the demo before committing. Test the way you expect to play. If that means handheld, judge that experience separately from docked play. We haven't tested either mode, and this announcement alone doesn't establish how well either runs.
