Capcom is bringing the full Dragon’s Dogma 2 fantasy to Nintendo’s hybrid on October 9, 2026—base game and the new Dark Arisen expansion in one Switch 2 package—and a fresh Gamescom interview puts hard numbers and design calls on the record.
Speaking with Nintendo Everything, director Kento Kinoshita and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi walked through Switch 2 timing, a free Hard Mode update, why there are no new vocations, and how long the Norgan campaign should last.
Hard Mode lands free on launch day

Hard Mode arrives as a free update for both the base game and DLC on the same October 9 window. You can start a new game in Hard Mode or flip an existing save into it mid-adventure. The catch: once you commit, you cannot drop back to Normal until you finish a full playthrough (or use Capcom’s story-reset path). Capcom is pitching New Game Hard Mode as sustained tension with tougher encounters and doubled experience—not a pure “must-die” gauntlet.
That same free update expands weapon skill slots from four to six across vocations in the base game. Dark Arisen adds new and higher-level skills instead of brand-new classes. Kinoshita’s team never seriously chased extra vocations; the bet is that every existing vocation feels fresh when the skill grid deepens.
Switch 2: same content, still polishing frames

Switch 2 support was planned from the start of the Dark Arisen project, not bolted on late. Capcom’s pitch is explicit content parity: hybrid owners get the same Dark Arisen experience as PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. RE Engine know-how shared across Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and other 2026 titles is cited as the smooth-path advantage.
Performance is still being optimized. The Gamescom demo—called non-final—was already clearing a minimum 30fps, with the team pushing for further gains before October. Do not read that as a locked 40/60 promise; read it as Capcom refusing to ship a vague “it runs” shrug.
Norgan loop and a portable full package
The expansion’s new storyline leans on the classic Dark Arisen name for a reason: relic-hunt loops that echo the original expansion, plus a deeper narrative meaning Capcom will not spoil past the Gamescom prologue. Straight campaign length lands around 15–20 hours, with five-plus more if you explore and side-quest.
Hirabayashi’s message to Switch fans who lived with the original Dark Arisen on the first hybrid: thanks for the wait—October 9 puts the full-scale sequel-plus-expansion in a bag you can take anywhere. For first-timers, Kinoshita is banking on that same “your adventure, your story” Dogma fantasy landing hard on Nintendo’s mid-gen shelf.
