Which Dark Arisen buy you need depends on your platform

Key art for Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen showing the Arisen and pawns in a snowy northern landscape

Official Nintendo eShop / Capcom key art for Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen

If you already own Dragon's Dogma 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox, or Steam, the right purchase today is the $29.99 Dark Arisen Expansion — not the $49.99 package. Switch 2 players don't get that choice: Capcom's first Nintendo release of the game only sells the full bundle. Capcom's Games Press release and Capcom Town Store both list the launch as Oct 9, 2026, with Title Update 4.0 shipping alongside it. Store prices and listings were verified Oct 9, 2026, at 9:45 a.m. PT.

Who should buy what

Your situation Buy this US price Why
Own DD2 on PS5, Xbox, or Steam Dark Arisen Expansion (DLC) $29.99 Adds Norgan, relics, Lost Rites, and creator options to your existing save
New to the game on PS5, Xbox, or Steam Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (bundle) $49.99 Base game + expansion; $19.99 less than buying both separately ($39.99 + $29.99)
Playing on Switch 2 The $49.99 bundle only $49.99 No standalone expansion or base-game SKU on Nintendo

Steam's US store API showed the expansion at $29.99 and the Dark Arisen package at $49.99 on that same check; Capcom's press release matches both as MSRP, and the base game alone still lists at $39.99. Capcom Town sells the Steam versions and notes the Dark Arisen product is a bundle of the base game plus the expansion.

What Title Update 4.0 adds for free

The expansion is paid. Title Update 4.0 is not. Capcom's launch release says the free patch brings Hard Mode, Enhanced PSSR support on PlayStation 5 Pro, FSR 3 Frame Generation and DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation on PC, plus quality-of-life work, and a new wave of Official Pawns (Toy Leon, Knockoff Ryu, Real Rudy). Existing owners get those tools whether or not they buy Dark Arisen.

What's in the paid expansion

Capcom's press copy and store pages put the paid content in three buckets:

  • Norgan — a new northern region with Eir and the Fallen Dragon story, relic appraisal unlocking weapons and abilities
  • Lost Rites — 12 dungeon challenges in the base-game map with equipment once held by past Arisen
  • Character Creator — new hairstyles and tattoos for Arisen and pawns

Push Square's Robert Ramsey called it a transformative add-on after about 50 hours of story and side work (9/10). Wccftech's Alessio Palumbo spent around 30 hours and liked the relic loop while still calling combat chaotic (8.5/10). DualShockers went higher still (10/10).

Switch 2 performance is its own story

Nintendo World Report's Switch 2 review (8.5/10) is the clearest early read on that port, and it should stay separate from PS5/PC findings. John Rairdin reported a docked underlying resolution around 720p with upscaling, optional uncapped frame rate, and FSR 3 frame generation that can feel close to 60 fps docked. In handheld he found the image softer — underlying resolution sometimes as low as 360p before scaling — and turned frame generation off because the stability hit was distracting. Capcom's RE Engine still gets credit for how playable the open world is on the new hardware; treat those notes as Switch 2-specific, not as a claim about the PS5 or PC builds.
