Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Gets a Free Switch→Switch 2 Upgrade on October 6

If you already painted Wasteland on Switch, THQ Nordic does not want you to buy Mickey twice. In a lengthy Discord FAQ covered by Nintendo Everything and Nintendo Wire, the publisher confirmed that Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed on Nintendo Switch 2 launches with a free upgrade path for existing Switch owners—digital cart owners and plastic owners alike.

The Switch 2 version lands October 6, 2026 at 15:00 CEST globally, with Japan following October 8 at 00:00 JST. Standalone price is $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. There is no preorder. Physical buyers get a Game-Key Card, not a full game cartridge.

How the free upgrade actually works

Install your Switch 1 copy on Switch 2—insert the cartridge or redownload the digital title—then grab the free upgrade patch. Progress carries over on that path, provided you have already moved Switch 1 saves onto the new console. Buy the Switch 2 SKU as a brand-new product, though, and the console treats it as separate: no save import from the Switch 1 edition.

Costume Pack rules mirror the same split. Purchase Switch 2 standalone and the DLC is bundled with the base game. Upgrade from Switch 1 while owning the DLC and the patch unlocks costumes too. Own only the Switch 1 base game and the upgraded build stays costume-locked until you buy and install the Switch 1 Costume Pack first.

Docked glow-up, no mode toggle

THQ Nordic says the Switch 2 build “generally runs at a higher resolution and frame rate” than Switch 1, “especially when docked,” with no Quality/Performance toggle. Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are part of the pitch for the new hardware; the FAQ notes no matching mouse-control patch planned for PC.

For players still on Switch 1, the practical play is obvious: Rebrushed is discounted hard at some retailers right now, and the October 6 patch turns that cart into a Switch 2 install without a second full-price hit. Continuity beat scarcity on this one—Mickey wants your save file more than your foil shelf.

One practical tip from the FAQ: the upgraded Switch 1 version and the standalone Switch 2 SKU remain separate products on the console. That quirky bookkeeping is why save transfer only works on the patch path—and why anyone planning a fresh $39.99 buy should finish their Switch 1 run first or accept starting Wasteland clean.
