God of War Laufey is now scheduled for May 20, 2027, instead of February 16. Santa Monica Studio announced the delay on November 4, according to VGC’s report and The Verge’s coverage. The studio says the extra time will go toward finishing and polishing the game. For PS5 players planning their next purchases or time off, May is the date to use now.

The studio also said it would share further updates. Its explanation gives players a reason for the move, but it should not be treated as a verdict on the finished game. A longer development schedule is an opportunity to improve a release; the result still has to speak for itself.

What PS5 players have already been shown

The useful context is Santa Monica’s September combat breakdown, also detailed by Gematsu. The studio described Faye’s Serpent Bow as a weapon designed to work alongside her other attacks, with two aiming modes controlled by how far the player presses the aim trigger. A full press gives more precise aiming and greater draw distance, while a half press switches to a more mobile, close-range hip-fire stance.

That same breakdown described charging a volley of up to five arrows and using bow attacks to extend airborne combos. Equipment choices also matter in the announced design: bow Scales alter its appearance and add a perk, while armor, the sword’s Blade and magical Catalysts provide other customization options. These are announced features, rather than conclusions from hands-on testing.

The next update worth watching

Those details make the next substantial gameplay demonstration more useful than another promise about polish. How clearly the two aiming modes communicate, and how comfortably ranged attacks fit into a longer fight, are good questions to take into future coverage. They are not problems we can diagnose from a release-date change.

For now, the practical move is simple: update your calendar and wait for more evidence before deciding what the delay means for quality. If you have already reserved a copy, check your own retailer’s order information before changing any plans. A studio’s revised launch announcement should not be taken as a personalized shipping or refund notice.
