God of War Laufey Pre-Orders: Standard vs Deluxe, the $10 Upgrade, and Why Today Isn’t a Deadline

God of War Laufey pre-orders opened this morning at 10:00 AM local time on PlayStation Store, with Santa Monica Studio locking the PS5 exclusive to February 16, 2027. The U.S. store and today’s Push Square price check both list Standard at $69.99 and Digital Deluxe at $79.99. That $10 gap is small enough that a lot of coverage is treating today like a scramble. It isn’t.

What follows is not another reprint of the edition bullet lists. It is a decision sheet built from the PlayStation Blog post, the U.S. product page, and the store prices that went live today: which path buys which cosmetics, how those cosmetics sit inside Faye’s new Serpent Bow system, and which clocks actually matter between now and launch.

PlayStation’s blog spells out the pre-order package and the Digital Deluxe contents. Push Square’s live store check this afternoon (PT) confirms the two U.S. prices. The U.S. product page also notes that a Standard-to-Deluxe upgrade exists for buyers who start with Standard, including physical Standard owners.

Prices from Push Square’s Sep 29 live store check ($69.99 / $79.99). Edition contents from PlayStation Blog (Sep 28) and the U.S. God of War Laufey product page. Upgrade path confirmed on the same product page FAQ.

There is no collector’s edition in today’s announcement. Digital Deluxe is storefront-only. Physical Standard is confirmed on the product page and in Santa Monica’s blog footnotes, with pre-order bonuses delivered by download code that needs a PlayStation account and an internet connection.

What the Dark Alchemy kit actually sits on

Most outlet lists stop at “armor, blade, bow scales, catalyst.” The more useful context is in the same PlayStation Blog post’s combat section. Faye’s loadout is built around three customizable layers: Blade on the sword, Scales on the Serpent Bow, and Catalyst artifacts that channel Everywhen magic. Scales change both the bow’s look and a unique perk. Dark Alchemy Bow Scales are called out as one example of that Scales slot.

Mapped from Santa Monica’s Sep 28 PlayStation Blog combat breakdown. In-game items still unlock through story progression per the product-page footnotes.

That is the real Deluxe argument. You are not only buying a soundtrack and a PDF artbook. You are buying an early cosmetic-and-perk kit that plugs into every major customization lane the studio just explained. Whether those pieces stay relevant past the opening hours is still unknown; the product page is clear that bonus items unlock through story progression, not at the title screen.

Dates from PlayStation Blog (Sep 28), U.S. product page release date and footnotes, and State of Play 2026 reveal coverage. Pre-order bonuses apply to any purchase before launch, not only purchases made on Sep 29.

The important line for owners is the middle of that table. Unlike yesterday’s Minecraft Dungeons II Twisted cosmetics, which had a hard noon-Pacific cutoff, Laufey’s pre-order package is tied to buying before launch. Waiting for January reviews does not forfeit the Last Wish set if you still purchase before February 16.

Owner verdict

Buy Digital Deluxe today only if you already know you want the Dark Alchemy kit and the digital extras, and you are comfortable parking $79.99 five months out. Otherwise Standard is the cleaner move, especially if you want a disc: keep the $10 upgrade in your back pocket after you have played a few hours. If you are still unsure about the game itself, there is no Sep 29 penalty for waiting. The bonuses ride with a pre-launch purchase, not with today’s calendar square.

One more product-page note for newcomers: Santa Monica says Laufey can be played as a standalone story, while still recommending God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök for the fuller family context. That recommendation does not change the edition math, but it does change whether February is a $70 decision or a longer backlog plan.
