Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux are scheduled to receive their free PS5 and Xbox Series X|S update on October 29. If you already own them, checking your existing edition should come before buying another copy. The announcement is a reason to revisit your library, not to assume you need a new purchase.
Phantom Blade Zero presents a different scheduling problem: its PS5 digital launch falls on October 28 at 7 p.m. PT, despite the October 29 date used internationally. This Daily Console Drop separates the two jobs: confirming an upgrade entitlement and preparing for a timed unlock. A date on a promotional image doesn't answer both.
Check your Metro edition before spending
PLAION's update announcement and Deep Silver's overview put the modern-console release on October 29. This covers the two Redux games, not Metro Exodus or a new Metro game.
There is an important qualification to the broad free-upgrade wording. PLAION's support FAQ says most owners qualify and that some versions may be incompatible. The materials checked don't establish a complete disc-by-disc entitlement guide. We therefore can't promise that every older purchase or subscription copy will produce the same upgrade option.
Open the listing for the edition you own when the update appears, check which console version it offers, and read the price before accepting anything. If it asks you to pay unexpectedly, pause rather than buying a second copy just to solve the confusion. Keep your purchase information handy for support.
Don't plan a midnight session around Metro yet. The verified announcements establish a release date, but we haven't verified an exact console unlock hour. Japan also has separate timing: the release notice points to November, while the support FAQ still describes those plans as being finalised. Treat the October 29 schedule as something to check against your regional listing, not a universal clock.
Phantom Blade Zero has a precise Pacific unlock
GamesRadar's launch-time guide gives October 28 at 7 p.m. PT for the digital release. RPG Site's report of S-GAME's launch schedule corroborates that time and says the PS5 physical edition is planned for 2027.
That leaves a real choice for disc collectors. Waiting for the physical edition means waiting beyond this digital launch; buying digitally now should be a deliberate decision, not a reaction to an ambiguous date. Neither report establishes an exact day for the boxed release.
Preloading is already available according to both reports. If you've chosen the digital edition, check that your download has actually finished before setting aside the evening. A completed preload and permission to launch are different things, so don't interpret an installed icon as evidence that the game has unlocked early.
| When | Game and platform | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| October 28, 2026, 7 p.m. PT | Phantom Blade Zero, PS5 digital | Scheduled unlock; finish the available preload beforehand. |
| October 29, 2026; hour unverified | Metro Redux, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S | Confirm your edition's upgrade entitlement and regional availability. |
| 2027; exact date not given in cited reports | Phantom Blade Zero, PS5 physical | Decide whether having a disc matters more than playing at digital launch. |
For Metro, start with what you already own. For Phantom Blade Zero, decide which format you want before making room for the download. Neither announcement needs to become an extra purchase made in a hurry.
