Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard will not say whether Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Switch 2. In a Variety interview published Oct 9, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. PT, she put the call on the publisher and studio: "That's going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time." Polygon and Nintendo Wire carried the same line later the same day. Quotes and dates below were verified Oct 9, 2026, at 3:35 p.m. PT against those pages.

That is not a denial and not a tease with a date. Rockstar has only confirmed the Nov 19, 2026 launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC is still later, and Nintendo is not claiming a version of its own.

What she did promise for third parties

Pritchard told Variety the company is "just at the beginning of seeing what Nintendo Switch 2 can do," and that Nintendo wants "a diversity in terms of the types of experiences that you can have on the game system." She tied that to the old "ages 5 to 95" line — family games and adult-rated ones both belong on the same hardware.

Variety pointed to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 as the clearest near-term proof that big third parties will treat Switch 2 as a day-and-date platform. Activision and Nintendo both list the game for October 23, 2026 on Switch 2 alongside the other consoles — the franchise's first Nintendo console release in more than a decade.

Near-term Switch 2 third-party timeline

Title Window Status on Switch 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Oct 23, 2026 Day-and-date with PS5, Xbox, PC (Nintendo / Activision)
Monster Hunter Wilds Dec 4, 2026 Confirmed Switch 2 port (Capcom IR press, Sep 10, 2026)
Grand Theft Auto VI Nov 19, 2026 on PS5 / Xbox No Switch 2 announcement; Pritchard: conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar

Who is affected

  • Switch 2 owners hoping for GTA 6 at launch: there is still no Nintendo SKU and no Rockstar date. Plan around the Nov 19 PS5/Xbox release if you want the game on day one.
  • Players waiting for big adult-rated third parties on Switch 2: Pritchard's diversity pitch and the Oct 23 Call of Duty launch are the concrete near-term signal. Capcom's confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 date — Dec 4, 2026 — is the next large third-party marker after that.
  • Anyone reading "nothing to announce" as a soft yes: treat it as a handoff to Take-Two and Rockstar, not a roadmap item Nintendo controls.

Pritchard also used the Variety conversation to talk Zelda's 40th anniversary — Ocarina of Time remake, concerts, and the live-action film due April 2027 with Sony — which is a separate track from the GTA question. The GTA answer stays where she left it: Nintendo is not announcing a Switch 2 version, and the decision sits with Rockstar's parent and studio.
