No Rest for the Wicked is planning to make your equipped weapon determine your class, replacing its existing attribute system. For anyone considering the upcoming PS5 version, that changes the question worth asking about a build: how freely can you combine the weapon you enjoy with abilities learned elsewhere?
The October 16 showcase outlined 24 classes and 362 traits, with traits that can carry between classes. Gematsu's account of Moon Studios' presentation describes a system built around changing weapons rather than committing to an attribute-led playstyle. These are announced changes, not a report of our own testing.
The distinction matters when looking for advice. Before copying a build, check which version it describes. A recommendation based on the outgoing system isn't enough to tell you how the planned class system will feel.
More options come with another trade-off
The overhaul also includes six joinable factions, each with its own quests, vendors and traits. A separate progression system, Cerim Cores, provides improvements such as extra health and stamina, along with effects including faster attacks and lifesteal.
There is a cost to stacking those Core benefits beyond their capacity: increased damage from incoming attacks. Noisy Pixel's breakdown corroborates that penalty and the weapon-based classes. The useful comparison will therefore be the whole setup, including its vulnerability, rather than whichever individual effect sounds strongest.
Our practical advice is to watch for demonstrations that explain both sides of a proposed combination. What does it gain, what does it give up, and how much room is there to change your mind? A large number of traits alone doesn't answer those questions.
December's beta and the PS5 release are separate milestones
Moon Studios' own announcement places the class system in a December open beta ahead of the March 2027 version 1.0 launch. Gematsu and Noisy Pixel both identify PS5 and PC as the March release platforms.
Don't read the December beta window as confirmation that you'll be playing it on PS5 then. The announcement reviewed here doesn't establish console beta access or a specific December start date. For a PS5 buying decision, wait for platform-specific access details and performance evidence, then judge the new systems in the version you would actually play.
