Thekla and publisher Arc Games released Order of the Sinking Star on October 8, 2026, a decade after Jonathan Blow's The Witness. It is a single-player puzzle adventure of more than a thousand handcrafted challenges, on PC through Steam, Steam Deck, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Store checks for this article were made on October 8, 2026, at 12:02 p.m. PT (19:02 UTC). At that time the US Steam page had a buy button at $29.99, the US Nintendo eShop listed the Switch 2 digital edition in stock at $29.99, and the US PlayStation Store showed a PS5 full-game listing at $29.99 with an add-to-cart button. The PlayStation page's release-date field still read coming soon and did not include a date.

Steam credits Thekla, Inc. as the developer and lists Arc Games and Gamirror Games as publishers. The Nintendo and PlayStation pages name Arc Games. The Steam page is Windows only and asks for 14 GB. The August Games Press announcement describes four worlds that start separate and later share rules, with design work from Alan Hazelden, Sean Barrett, Jonah Ostroff, Patrick Traynor, and others. GamingTrend, on an early PS5 copy, found no hint system, reached one of several endings, and wrote that the game ran flawlessly on PS5 Pro. The Games Press release says Steam demo saves carry into the full game. Thekla's global schedule, posted October 5, still puts the unlock on October 8 or October 9 depending on region. The US storefronts above were already offering a purchase at 12:02 p.m. PT.

Platform Price verified October 8, 2026, 12:02 p.m. PT What to know
PC (Steam, Windows) $29.99 on the US buy button. The release field read October 8, 2026, and the listing was not marked coming soon. Windows only, 14 GB. Steam bundles with Mewgenics, Animal Well, or the soundtrack take 10% off.
Steam Deck Included with that Steam purchase The US store's hardware block showed Steam Deck Verified, Valve category 3, at the same check.
PlayStation 5 $29.99, with an add-to-cart purchase button on the US page The page's release-date field still said coming soon, with no date. GamingTrend's early PS5 review said PS5 Pro performance was flawless. That review is not a Switch 2 test.
Nintendo Switch 2 $29.99, listed in stock on the US eShop Release date October 8, 2026. A 13.8 GB digital download, single-player, with TV, tabletop, and handheld modes.

The Switch 2 performance notes below are about that edition only, and each one is tied to the mode the review actually names. CGMagazine, reviewing on Switch 2, reported frame drops in larger or interconnected areas both docked and off the dock, so that finding covers both modes. WayTooManyGames, which scored its Switch 2 copy 7 out of 10, described portable play: the hub could fall into the single digits, puzzles stayed around 30 frames per second, and the battery drained faster than the writer expected. That review said the slowdown did not make a puzzle harder to solve. It did not publish a docked frame rate. It said a display bug stopped docked play on the television they used, and that they could not compare docked performance with portable play. Nintendo Life's Switch 2 review, an 8 out of 10, labels screenshots as docked and as handheld, but the review text does not discuss frame rate in either mode. Our October 7 roundup counted five of eight Switch 2 reviews as describing slowdown or bugs, and that tally does not separate handheld from docked. At 12:02 p.m. PT on October 8, Steam's newest posts were a launch announcement rather than patch notes, and the Nintendo product page did not list a day-one Switch 2 update.

Where those October 7 reviews disagree is mostly about length and story. Nintendo Life liked the mechanical range and still said the game steers you toward one intended solution. CGMagazine found the character abilities inventive, then repetitive over a long session. GamingTrend uncovered the map, reached one ending, and still had puzzles left, which fits a release advertised as hundreds of hours, so those reviews are not completion scores. If you are buying for the puzzles on PC or PS5, the PS5 review linked here does not describe a technical reason to wait. On Switch 2, CGMagazine is the note that names frame drops both docked and handheld, and WayTooManyGames's frame-rate numbers are the portable account, with docked play blocked by the display bug that review describes.
