Over the Hill offers online co-op without split-screen

Over the Hill's four-player trips need separate screens. The off-road exploration game is out on Steam today, October 14, but its console versions are scheduled for 2027, and the announced co-op setup is online. If you pictured friends sharing one television, check that detail before putting it on your group's list.

The developer FAQ says local co-op is not currently feasible. It specifies up to four players in total, while the PlayStation Store listing distinguishes one local player from four online players. This is a group expedition you join from your own screen, rather than a split-screen evening.

The shared activity is navigating difficult ground together. Vehicles inspired by classic 1960s–1980s off-roaders travel through scenery based on real-world locations. Planks help bridge gaps, and winches help recover stranded vehicles or tackle awkward terrain. Those are features described in Funselektor's official press kit. The appeal for a group is deciding how to get everyone through a route, rather than treating each friend as another car to beat.

There are reasons to slow down between tricky sections, too. The official description includes cabins, viewpoints, wildlife photography and vehicle customization, while weather and the day/night cycle change the surroundings. For groups choosing their next regular game, that suggests a session with room for detours, discoveries and the occasional recovery job. Whether that pace suits you matters more than the size of the multiplayer lobby.

Put the console trip on next year's list

The practical timeline is straightforward. PC players can begin now, as confirmed by the official launch announcement. Console players should wait for a dated platform announcement before organizing a launch-night session. The official game overview puts PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. PlayStation's listing still gives no fixed day, although you can add the game to your wishlist there.

For anyone in the group who also plays on PC, the US Steam offer currently prices the base game at $19.99, down 20 percent from $24.99, until October 28. That is an option for starting early on PC. It doesn't establish the price or promotion for the future console versions, so don't build a console buying plan around it.

Keep Over the Hill in mind for an online group of up to four, and choose a couch co-op alternative if everyone will be sharing one screen. Decide where your group wants to play before anyone buys an early copy just to get started.
