Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire Clip From Official Account Fuels Switch Port Rumors

The official Pokémon social account posted a clip of Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire running on what fans immediately clocked as an unknown emulator—and the rumor machine did the rest.

Coverage from My Nintendo News and Polygon frames the September 21 post as the latest spark in a months-long hope cycle: that Gen 3’s Hoenn games are next in line for Nintendo Switch / Switch 2 re-releases after the FireRed and LeafGreen ports landed earlier in the anniversary stretch.

What actually happened

The clip itself is nostalgia bait, not a store page. Fans and leak accounts amplified the footage as evidence of an internal or near-final presentation build. Centro LEAKS and others highlighted the “unknown emulator” angle within hours. That is a social-media event, not a Nintendo Direct slide.

The Pokémon Company has not announced Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald Switch ports. Nintendo has not dated a Hoenn collection. Until a SKU, price, or eShop listing appears, the responsible read is: official nostalgia post plus community projection.

Why the rumor already had oxygen

Context is doing as much work as the clip. When FireRed and LeafGreen arrived on Switch / Switch 2, dataminers reportedly found code checking for Ruby/Sapphire counterparts—enough to keep Hoenn on the wishlist. In August, leak chatter (including Shpeshal Nick’s window) pointed at a late September or October drop, with chatter of roughly $20 each for individual ports. September is now in its final stretch, which is exactly when rumor clocks get loudest.

Polygon notes the FireRed/LeafGreen precedent of a shadow-style drop during anniversary programming: if Hoenn is real, TPC may say nothing until the games are ready to buy. That is a pattern fans remember—not confirmation.

How to read it without buying the rumor

Treat the official account post as marketing nostalgia until storefront reality arrives. Ports of Ruby, Sapphire, and especially Emerald would be an easy mid-gen catalog win for Switch 2 owners who already bought the Kanto remakes—but wishlist gravity is not a ship date.

For now: a viral official clip, a familiar leak window, and zero dated SKU. Watch the eShop, not the quote-tweet pile.
