Thursday’s Switch 2 download list is not short on familiar names. What makes September 24 interesting is not that remasters and re-releases keep arriving—it is that three of the week’s headliners arrive under three different ideas of what “owning it already” is supposed to mean.
Nintendo World Report’s North American rundown frames the week as a Switch 2 re-release cluster led by Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition at $39.99 and SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance at $29.99, both treated as full-price Switch 2 SKUs after existing on the original Switch. Sitting beside them is SiN Reloaded, also listed at $29.99 as a new purchase—but with a separate no-cost Switch 2 upgrade line for owners who already bought the Switch build. That is not a minor footnote. It is the week’s clearest split between catalog continuity and catalog repurchase.
Paid port with a handshake

SEGA and Lizardcube’s Switch 2 launch for SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is the friendliest version of a paid re-release. The Nintendo eShop listing confirms higher handheld resolution (1080p), digital and physical editions from $29.99, and Deluxe options that bundle the SEGA Villains Stage with Dr. Eggman, Goro Majima, and Death Adder. Critically, Switch save data can carry over into Switch 2, while Switch 2 saves cannot travel back. You are still paying again, but your progress is invited along. For a hand-drawn action platformer built on reaction and route knowledge, that handshake matters more than another trailer still.
Paid port without the luggage

Square Enix’s Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition on Switch 2 is the harder sell for library continuity. Same-week coverage treats it as a full-price Switch 2 re-release, and Nintendo World Report notes the familiar Square Enix pattern: no save conversion from the earlier Switch version. At $39.99, the pitch is a cleaner, better-looking Definitive build on the new hardware—not a free bridge for players who already finished Erdrea once. That is a coherent commercial choice. It is also the policy that makes Thursday feel like two different storefronts wearing the same Home Menu.
The free-upgrade counterexample
Nightdive and Atari’s SiN Reloaded is the week’s continuity argument in the other direction. Nintendo Everything’s pre-launch breakdown says the Switch 2 version targets 4K at 120 fps docked, 1080p handheld, and optional mouse controls—serious mid-gen presentation for a revived late-90s shooter. The eShop upgrade row still matters more for player trust: if you already paid for SiN Reloaded on Switch, the Switch 2 path is listed as no cost. Absolum’s recent no-cost Switch 2 edition sits in the same column. Publishers who treat the new box as a performance patch keep installed libraries feeling portable; publishers who reset the SKU treat Switch 2 as a second opening weekend.
None of these approaches is automatically wrong. Collectors will buy Shinobi’s physical Deluxe either way. JRPG fans who want the Definitive Edition’s presentation on a brighter handheld will pay Square’s ask. The mid-gen question is cumulative: after enough full-price rebuys without save bridges, “I already own this” stops feeling like a relationship and starts feeling like a receipt. Thursday’s eShop just put the receipt, the handshake, and the free patch on the same scroll—so players can see which language each publisher is speaking.
