Xbox’s long-rumored completion badge is no longer a datamine. In a September 29 Xbox Wire post, the company says Mythic Achievements are available for Xbox Insiders today, with retroactive credit for eligible games players already finished — including Xbox 360 titles. The Verge’s same-day report frames the feature as Xbox’s answer to PlayStation’s Platinum trophies, which matches how the rules read in the official post.
NextGenConsole covered the Mythic toast and BaseGame labeling when they surfaced in the PC app last week. Today’s post is the first official product write-up: what counts, what does not, where it shows up on your profile, and how progress is tracked in the Guide.
What counts toward Mythic

Xbox Wire’s definition is specific. You earn Mythic status by completing all original achievements for a game. Achievements added later through DLC or updates are not required, and once Mythic status is earned it stays. That is a cleaner rule than a raw 100% Gamerscore chase, because later add-on lists cannot move the goalposts after you finish the base set.
| Rule | Xbox Mythic (Xbox Wire, Sep 29) | PlayStation Platinum (established model) |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Complete all original achievements for a game | Unlock all other trophies in a game’s base list |
| DLC / post-launch | Not required; later achievements tagged “add-on” | DLC trophies sit in separate lists and do not block Platinum |
| Retroactive credit | Yes for eligible past completions, including Xbox 360 | Platinums historically awarded when the list was completed; no new cross-gen retrofit of this scale |
| Profile surfacing | New Gaming tab, heroic frame in history, friends’ Gaming tabs | Platinum shown on trophy lists and profile trophy shelves |
| Progress UI | Progress bar on each game list; filter to original achievements still needed | Trophy list completion percentage / remaining unearned trophies |
| Availability today | Xbox Insiders (early look); wider rollout timing not dated in the Wire post | Standard on PS4 / PS5 trophy system |
Xbox Wire also shows Gears of War: E-Day in the accompanying UI art and notes the game’s October 6 day-one Game Pass plan. That does not by itself prove every day-one Xbox release will ship with a polished Mythic path, but it does show Microsoft demoing the feature on its next major first-party launch.
What changed since the toast leak

| Signal | Last week (app leak / community finds) | Today (Xbox Wire) |
|---|---|---|
| Name and toast | Mythic badge, animation, and unlock sound visible in PC app builds | Officially named and explained as an Insider feature |
| Base vs add-on | BaseGame / add-on labeling inferred from app strings | Confirmed: original achievements count; later add-ons do not |
| History | Unclear how far back heals would reach | Retroactive for eligible completed games, including Xbox 360 |
| Profile | Partial UI glimpses | Gaming tab for achievements, Gamerscore milestone badges, and completed games |
| Who has it | Scattered Insider / app sightings | Xbox Insiders can take an early look; Pure Xbox reports seeing it in Alpha / Alpha Skip-Ahead so far, not yet in Beta |
If you are already in the Insider Program, the practical path is straightforward: update through the Xbox Insider Hub, open your profile’s Gaming tab, and check whether finished games have already sprouted Mythic frames. If you are not an Insider, Xbox Wire points to the Hub on Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC; the company has not published a public retail date in this post.
Owner takeaway
The headline for completionists is the combo of retroactive credit and DLC exclusion. Players who cleaned up base lists years ago should look for Mythic frames before grinding anything new. Players who quit at 90% because a multiplayer add-on achievement lingered can treat Mythic as a reopened door, provided the missing items are original achievements rather than later add-ons.
For everyone else, this is still an Insider-era feature. Useful, overdue, and clearly modeled on Platinum logic — but not something to assume is on every retail console tonight. Watch the Gaming tab if you are in the program; wait for a wider Xbox Wire follow-up if you are not.
