Xbox Mythic Achievements now reward base-game completions

Xbox’s Mythic Achievements have moved beyond Insider testing and into the public console update. The release began rolling out on October 28, with Pure Xbox and TrueAchievements both reporting its arrival. For anyone who likes finishing achievement lists, the useful question is what counts toward the new reward.

The answer is the original game. Microsoft awards Mythic status when you unlock all of its original achievements. Achievements introduced later through downloadable content or updates are excluded, and the status stays yours once earned. Those are the rules Microsoft set out in its Xbox Wire announcement, also detailed by Pure Xbox in its public-update coverage.

The original list is the target

That distinction matters when deciding whether to return to an unfinished game. A later expansion does not have to become part of the project just because you want the base-game completion reward. Before choosing what to play, separate the original achievements from anything added afterward.

It also gives a completion attempt a defined endpoint. You can decide whether the original list sounds enjoyable without treating every future addition as another obligation. The reward is a reason to look again at an old favorite, rather than a reason to buy extra content you otherwise would not want.

Check your past completions first

Microsoft says eligible games completed before the feature arrived receive Mythic status too, including Xbox 360 titles. The separate TrueAchievements report on the public rollout corroborates the retroactive awards. Your existing achievement history is therefore a sensible place to start before picking something new to finish.

There is no need to plan a replay solely because Mythic itself is new. First look at what you already completed, then consider games where the original list is still unfinished. Choose a return visit because you want to play, not because a fresh reward makes every abandoned checklist feel urgent.

The public release is the news here; it does not establish that every reader’s console has already installed the update. Once you are ready to explore it, keep the basic rule in mind: original achievements count, later additions are optional, and eligible past completions come with you.
