Switch 2’s Japan Choose-Your-Game Bundle: ¥63,980 on November 12, and What Each Pick Really Saves

Box for the Nintendo Switch 2 Japanese-Language System Choose-Your-Game Bundle showing Mario Kart World, Switch Sports Resort and Tomodachi Life

Nintendo announced a new Switch 2 bundle for Japan this morning, and the headline is flexibility rather than a new design. The Nintendo Switch 2 Japanese-Language System (Japan Only) Choose-Your-Game Bundle launches on November 12 at ¥63,980 including tax, and comes with a download code that buyers redeem for one of three Nintendo games: Mario Kart World or Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for Switch 2, or Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which is a Switch game that runs on Switch 2. According to Nintendo’s news release, the code is valid through March 31, 2027, and redeeming it requires a Nintendo Account and an internet connection.

The bundle matters less as a product than as a signal of where Nintendo’s Japanese pricing now sits. The console inside costs ¥59,980 on its own, because Nintendo raised the Japanese-language model by ¥10,000 on May 25, and the bundle adds ¥4,000 to that. Japanese outlet ASCII has already worked out the per-game savings. We checked what we could against Nintendo’s own pages, then went a step further and compared this set with every other Switch 2 bundle Japan has received.

What each game choice is worth

Game you redeemPlatformDownload price in JapanSaving vs buying separately
Mario Kart WorldSwitch 2¥8,980¥4,980
Tomodachi Life: Living the DreamSwitch (runs on Switch 2)¥7,100¥3,100
Nintendo Switch Sports ResortSwitch 2¥5,980¥1,980
Saving = console (¥59,980) plus the game’s download price, minus the ¥63,980 bundle. Prices from Nintendo Japan’s store and game pages as reported by ASCII; Switch Sports Resort price confirmed on Nintendo’s official page.

Mario Kart World is the clear value pick, and Switch Sports Resort is the weakest by a wide margin. There is also a timing catch for anyone in Japan who wants Sports Resort specifically. The game launches on October 22, three weeks before the bundle, so a buyer who wants to play it at launch would pay ¥65,960 for the console and the download version, against ¥63,980 for waiting until November 12. Whether ¥1,980 is worth a three-week wait is a personal call, but it is a thin margin.

Lined up this way, the new set charges exactly the same ¥4,000 premium as the launch-era Mario Kart World bundle, but on a console that now costs ¥10,000 more. In other words, a Japanese buyer choosing Mario Kart World in November pays ¥10,000 more than someone who bought the 2025 set, for the same hardware and the same game. The Monster Hunter Wilds set that Nintendo lists for December 4 has the smallest premium of the lot, although it is tied to one game; we covered the Switch 2 version of Wilds in our look at Capcom’s rebuild.

Who this is for, and who should skip it

For buyers in Japan who were already planning to pick up a Switch 2 and want Mario Kart World or Tomodachi Life, this is the cheapest way to get the console and that game from Nintendo, and the long redemption window makes it a reasonable gift purchase. Families who mainly want Sports Resort save little, and could reasonably buy the console and game separately in October instead.

Importers should leave it alone. Nintendo’s Japanese lineup page states that the Japanese-language model supports only Japanese and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts whose country or region is set to Japan. Anyone outside Japan who wants a Japanese-market Switch 2 for other languages would need the ¥69,980 multilingual model instead, which removes most of the price appeal.

There is a business angle too. As our earnings scorecard showed, Nintendo still needs about 12.68 million more Switch 2 units to hit its full-year forecast, and a run of themed and game bundles heading into the holidays is one of the most direct levers it has in its home market. Nintendo reports its next results on November 5, a week before this bundle reaches shelves.
